Because although Barney is a great place to live it is not without its problems. It seems that it can at times be difficult to get your point across, express your views or just be listened to. This is your outlet, your chance to be heard. Share your views here and if enough interest is expressed on a topic then I will email it to the powers that be. Over to you, it's your chance to put the world to rights.

Looks like regardless of the wishes of the populous the unitary authority is going to go ahead.
Regardless of other issues is this just not undemocratic? I personally hate when the voters make their views known then they are ignored in favour of party politics, what do you think we vote you in to do!

With the vote result swooping towards a massive no with a resounding 73% of the vote it seems the good people of the county don't want one but do you? Would a unitary authority be good for Barnard Castle? You can vote on it here but feel free to add your opinions in this thread (click the 'reply' button).

Luckily those crazy lads have kept the race alive but putting one boat down the river the first year and four last year, well done lads and lasses. Pictures from last years race can be found in the gallery on Barney Legends.

Yes but you have left the town now, you try living opposite the d**n things year after year and see if your opinion changes. That said with the recent controversy over the meet money I hope the town does pull together and keep the meet alive, if we miss one year I think that will be the last By the way my beef is not with the town or the meet weekend it is with the positioning of the shows.

THE SHOWS The question is....... Is it worth it? the noise, smell, litter, disturbance, thievery, violence not to mention the cost..... Is it worth it? Are you one of those who make money out the shows being in town and would like them to stay (or one of those who would like them to move to a different part of town) or are you one of the people who are sick of the yearly noise and disruption and just want a peaceful peaceful weekend like others enjoy. Have your say…..

Pony Poop Poser Before I start I think I better state that I am not a dog or a horse owner and have no axe to grind with dog or horse owners, (apart from barking dogs, if you are going to keep a dog at least have the decency to keep it properly and don't annoy everyone within a half mile radius). The majority of dog owners are conscientious but are chased and prosecuted due to dog crap on the pavement, they have become vilified by the general public and now have a legal (and more importantly moral) obligation to clean up after their animals so how come a horse can crap wherever it wants without any consequences at all? I ask because being a two wheel vehicle user I find this stuff on the roads all the time, usually it is reasonably easy to spot but the other night I was going round a corner (leant over as two wheel vehicles do round corners) when I ran over a pile of this stuff right on the corner. As I'm sure you can imagine I was VERY lucky not to go down. So how come dog owners have to clear up poop but horse owners can let their animals deposit real and very dangerous hazards onto any road at any time? Is there a law I don't know about? No I'm asking I always take great care to go past horses slowly and quietly so as not to spook them (common courtesy you see) but if the buggers are going to have me sliding down the road because of indiscriminate crapping then next time I am going to give them something to crap themselves about! ;D Riders think of other road users, put a spare saddlebag on the horse and shovel the d**n stuff up. Fact: Banana skins are better for roses. (and don't get me started on cats)

Cockerel Crowing Confrontation Right then here we go, I was strolling to work today 5:30 in the morning enjoying the sunshine and the peace and quiet when what did I hear? another cockerel crowing its **** head off! I say another as the noise was coming from a different direction than the one that I usually hear so there must be a few in the town now. That got me thinking, we are a very rural town the countryside is only a cows plop away after all but the town is also quite compact and obviously residential. These noisy pluckers seem to be dotted all round the town so most of us get a listen. Question: is the keeping of noisy poultry in a residential area acceptable behaviour or should this type of thing be kept out in the farms/countryside where they are expected? So are we country or are we town? cockerels, spoil them or broil them? Poultry preen them or pluck them? Over to you..... ;D
